GOOD FAT, BAD FAT

GOOD FAT- BAD FAT

We have been reminded so often about avoiding fat that the question in your mind may be, “Is there such a thing as a good fat when you are trying to lose weight? Yes, just as there is good cholesterol and bad cholesterol, good sugars and bad sugars, there really is good and bad fat? When choosing a food for your diet and the sake of your health the reasonable choice is to choose the good Fat.
That sounds simple enough so what makes some of those combinations good and what makes the others bad?  The structure of all fats, break down as carbon, hydrogen and oxygen so what is the difference and why do you need fat at all? We cannot lump all fats, all calories, all carbohydrates and all sugars into one category because some of each type is essential to good health and a strong body.

Fats and oils are made up of mixtures of units called fatty acids and they are further classified as polyunsaturated fats, monounsaturated fats and saturated fats. Of these three classes, saturated fats are more stable which means they are less likely to turn rancid but saturated fats, while necessary in limited quantities, are  also the ones that when eaten consistently in your diet, create problems in the blood vessels and are stored in the fat cells.

Animal fats from red meats, butter, whole or reduced fat milk and coconut oil are saturated fats which is evident  because they remain solid at room temperature.  Rancid oil, on the other hand is undesireable for cooking and yet according to Adelle Davis, who was a very respected nutritionist, rancid oils are reprocessed and used in making margarine .

There is also the matter of the degree of saturation in a fat. Mayo Clinic has rated oils that are high in saturated fats, including coconut, palm oil and palm kernel oil. Although they melt at a very low temperature, they remain solid at room temperature unlike monounsaturated fats like olive oil, peanut oil, canola oil, avocado, safflower, corn, sunflower, soy, mustard and cottonseed oils which are generally healthier.
Some studies have shown, however that coconut, palm oil and palm kernel oil act differently than other saturated fats and that palm oil actually reduces the Cholesterol level compared to other saturated fats.

We can classify Canola, Flaxseed, Corn, sunflower, safflower and omega 3 oil as polyunsaturated fats and they are considered to contain essential fats which are not made by your body and must be acquired from the foods you include in your diet.

Vegetable oils, such as olive oil, and peanut oil are classified as monounsaturated fats which are less susceptible to rancidity but some are thought to possibly, promote insulin resistance.
The really bad guys, though are the trans-fats which are modified fats and are labeled, hydrogenated. These fats are artificially saturated by the addition of a hydrogen atom to the fatty acid molecules. Snack foods are often loaded with these fats and should be limited in your diet to protect your health and  completely eliminated from your weight loss diet.

This brings us to what makes good fat “good.”Fat is essential to your diet because without it, vitamins A,D,E and K would not be able to reach the tissues that require it. Neurological damage would be a result as well as blindness and osteoporosis.

The Omega 3 supplied by a tablespoonful of cod liver oil supplies the daily requirement of Vitamins A and D which makes it a super-food that no one should be without. If you are considering a weight-loss diet, make sure you include the essential fats to avoid damaging your health. All you have to do is choose fats wisely by eliminating the bad guys and including the good ones. I hope this is helpful to you in maintaining your health to make it an effective, healthy diet.

Healthy Weight Loss Diet

HEALTHY WEIGHT LOSS DIET

Have you ever thought of comparing your life to that of a squirrel in a cage? Probably not but the squirrel jumps into the cage and begins running and running and…. As you watch, have you wondered what makes him do that? He seems to be addicted or driven by it because he does it for so long many times during the day. Likewise when you awaken in the morning, don’t you begin by doing pretty much the same ritual you did yesterday? Doesn’t everyone? Is your morning diet composed of the same this morning as it was yesterday and will it be the same tomorrow? What about lunch? What about dinner? Do you think the squirrel might look at us and think to himself, “are they addicted to that stuff?“

Early in life you acquire likes and dislikes for the foods that make up your diet. You could easily name the foods you like as well as the ones you don’t like. The big question is, does your diet keep you healthy or is your diet slowly making you sick? If it’s keeping you healthy, that’s great. Just maintain that great diet but if your diet is causing you to add pounds of fat, take that weight gain as a symptom of a problem, not only in your diet but in your health Everywhere weight gain is being linked to health problems in the making.

Aging has been blamed far too often for health problems until it has become normal for many to think they are gaining weight, having arthritic pains, heart problems, cancer, becoming diabetic because they are getting older. That is just another excuse but not a good, valid, reason. The real reason is an accumulation of wrong habits, the chief one being a repetititious, unhealthy diet.

To adopt and follow a healthy weight loss plan takes first of all, a new mindset, a commitment to adopt and follow it closely. It may very well require that you acquire new likes and dislikes in your diet habits. However, by quitting those unhealthy foods that put on the weight and gradually adopting the habit of eating a variety of healthy foods, you can lose that weight and at the same time enjoy better health.

A crash diet is not a good diet because it is sure to crash when you’ve had all the misery of it that you can take. but a good weight loss diet will allow you to gradually make changes and develop new habits. There is no shortage of diet plans out there but it pays to look carefully at the processes those plans have to offer before committing yourself to one. I found this one at

and am 35 pounds lighter and counting as a result. But it is something I can easily do and enjoy doing at the same time. You may want to take a look at it. If nothing else, you may pick up some great tips you can incorporate in your own diet plan by listening to what they have to say. I often get some really great, new ideas by just reading some of my junk mail. Until tomorrow, may God bless you with a very happy life and a healthy diet.

ENZYMES AT WORK

ENZYMES AT WORK

If you are looking for healthy weight loss and/or a healthy body, consider enzymes. The human body cannot exist without them. Enzymes are the “real” life of all “real” food. Remove the enzymes and you are left with an inert material that, when eaten, requires your pancreas to produce enzymes in order to break that substance down into useable parts your body can use to build and maintain itself.

Research has found that when animals were given cooked food, the pancreas of each animal grew to three times the normal size for the same type of animal fed on raw natural food.

You might ask, “Is having a big pancreas good or bad?” Isn’t it a good thing to have a big, strong pancreas? Compare that enlarged pancreas to an enlarged heart. When obstructions are formed in blood vessels that are partially clogged or undo pressure is applied to them such as when bodies are overweight, it obstructs blood flow forcing the heart to overwork and become enlarged.

These abnormal situations eventually take their toll by starving the heart for the very blood it is trying to pump or another organ that becomes diseased from deprivation. The pancreas too becomes enlarged because of being overworked creating enzymes that are destroyed by cooked and processed foods. Our bodies become enlarged with the poor diets we feed it while producing other diseases at the same time.

As I mentioned before, I was stricken with rheumatoid arthritis at age 40 and had it not been for a book by Adele Davis called “Let’s Get Well,” I’m convinced that I would be in a wheel chair today. I. At the time, no one knew that there is a connection between poor digestion and arthritis. I began to gain weight and reached two hundred and thirty two pounds before I began to develop a heart arrhythmia. It shows how one thing leads to another and how one malfunction leads to another. Again, I feel fortunate in finding someone who put a working plan together for healthy weight loss and have lost thirty seven pounds. I’m sharing it here for anyone who would like to hear to what they have to say.

It seems to be more common to think of losing weight to improve appearance rather than think your health is being jeopardized because you can be somewhat overweight and not feel any pain or discomfort. The clothing just begins to feel a little tighter but the mirror is the real clincher and tells you it’s time to lose some weight.

Why are enzymes important in losing weight? To begin with, digestion is accomplished because of enzymes as is every other living activity in your body. It is the lack of enzymes that help, to bring about your weight gain in the first place. 3,000 or more enzymes have been identified. As I mentioned before, every living thing contains the enzymes needed to break it down (digest it). A apple, in the process of rotting, is being digested (broken down) by the enzymes which it contains unless it is cooked and the spleen must work harder to produce the enzymes..

Digestion, in Chinese medicine is referred to as rotting and the proof that rotting is an apt term for it is in the odor of the stomach’s contents. The process is just being speeded up by first chewing and mixing it with enzymes in the saliva then sending it for greater and more diversified enzyme action in the digestive tract.

Our bodies make at least twenty two identifiable enzymes but it is obvious that it is very few compared to the three thousand that have been identified. Poorly digested  food is a source of weight gain especially in foods that contain fats and sugars whether natural or otherwise. I hope this will be of help and will bring more tomorrow.

IT’S BACK

IT’S BACK
I did mention that Cod Liver Oil is a deterrent to mild depression but that is selling it short. It is now even being called “The Number One Super Food.” There must be a reason for that, Right? As a matter of fact, there are many reasons. I’m sure you have heard a lot about the importance of Omega 3 fatty acids in your diet but did you know that Cod liver oil is one of the best sources for it.
Fish is recommended a couple of times a week but in lieu of that, keeping a bottle of Cod liver oil handy would do well and furnish even more as part of your healthy diet unless you eat a lot of fish. As far as the vitamin content is concerned, a tablespoonful of Cod liver oil will provide more than the recommended daily allowance of Vitamin A and Vitamin D.
Vitamin A and D shortages are very common in our population and if you do not like the taste or the thought of it, it is available in capsule form. It is being used as a post-operative heart and blood vessel aid to healing, for learning and behavioral disorders, bone health, arthritis, and memory loss. Looks like mom or grandma may have known best after all.
Immune response improved with cod liver oil and has also helped with allergies, stress responses, bipolar syndrome, rickets and deformities in children, osteoporosis in adults, pain in the bones as a result of vitamin D deficiency, muscle weakness, digestive problems and troublesome bowel disorders as well as diabetic eye problems.
We are so very well equipped now with all the modern instruments to do such wonderful analysis but the research began in 1918 and continues to this day which may explain why grandma and mom really did know best when they whipped out that Cod liver oil bottle.
Sadly,a lot of those old, remedies such as Cod liver oil were relegated to the back of the shelf or thrown away as outmoded as the miracle drugs began to flood the market but a really interesting thing to note however is that although, there is not a lot of money to be made with a bottle of Cod liver oil, it is good for “what ails you” and there are not a lot of side effect warnings on the bottle or contraindications connected with it either. Could it be because Cod liver oil is not a toxin but the magic bullets are toxic? Another note of interest and safety is also that since most of it is imported into the US from Norway, it must be free of mercury before it enters theUS.
What I have written here are merely a few of the benefits of Cod liver oil. There are many parallel comparisons to be made between lots of such common, inexpensive home remedies and the magic bullets being offered to patients on a regular basis.
It is your body and you must decide what is best for you. For further information on Cod liver oil, copy and paste or type this URL in your browser and check this site out. http://norwegiancodliveroil.net/ Good quality Icelandic or Norwegian Cod liver oil is available at most any health food store. To your good healthy, weight loss. Thanks for stopping in and more tomorrow.

DIET STRATEGY

DIET STRATEGY

Hello friend. It is encouraging to know that research is uncovering many of the enemies to good diet for health as well as more of the beneficial discoveries in natural foods. The discouraging part is that in order for you, your friends and neighbors to find out about those trans-food enemies and friendly foods, we must search for them and learn through each other rather than through the good news page of your newspaper. If you’ve never found that page with all the great health and diet breakthroughs, don’t feel too bad. I haven’t either but I Just keep searching and asking.

Those new discoveries are being made every day and not only the new discoveries but the good ones that were made decades ago, but for some reason never made it to the headlines but were relegated to an obscure spot inside somewhere or on the back page. You must know that your health is the most important thing you have. Both the good news and the bad news need to be shouted from the housetops.

Artificial sweeteners are really popular because everyone knows that sugar is our enemy. But how harmful is aspartame that is added to most diet drinks? I personally met an airline pilot that very nearly lost his license due to the many mistakes he was making but he was diagnosed with a condition brought on by aspartame in time to stop the damaging effects and save his job.

What does it do? For starters, it is known to cause depression, brain tumors, brain cancers, optic nerve damage, seizures, and memory loss in experimental animals. In spite of the fact that you place yourself above an animal, are you willing to be a guinea-pig, to find out if it will hurt you too? Is it worth the risk to go ahead and consume it as though you had been told beyond a doubt that it is perfectly safe?

Chlorine is another substance in question but is consumed by people living in almost every city in the US. Chlorine gas was used in World War one to kill the enemy but many people drink it anyway. If you have ever had a fish tank or bowl and you use chlorinated water you have probably been told to let the water stand for twenty four hours before adding fish to it so that the chlorine gas will escape If not, you probably have had dead fish instead.

How much does it take to inflict damage and who really determines what the safe level is for the use of these elements. We can only hope it’s not the same people who release prescription drugs that must be pulled from the drug market in a few months because they are causing too many illnesses and fatalities.

What is happening on the cellular level of your body where you cannot see it? I recall reading the work of a Dr who said in effect, “If you think you have a lot of scars on your body, it is nothing compared to the ones on the inside.

Prozac is often prescribed for nervous school children and is known to have a side effect of producing suicidal tendencies while in the meantime, a very simple substance which has been used for many decades will do the same thing in mild cases of depression as the Prozac without the dangers of Prozac. Dieticians have been telling us to eat fish at least twice a week for the omega three which is also the beneficial substance in cod liver oil.

These things I mention are merely the tip of the iceberg in some of the new discoveries being made. Although I am anxious to get to the things in a healthy diet that will rebuild some of the damage you may have experienced it is extremely necessary for you to fire the demolition foods, look at those box labels and to begin removing them from your diet and start replacing them with a fresh, healthy diet. Feed your body right and it will take care of any weight problem you may think you have. Thanks for visiting and taking time to read what I have written. I hope it will help you in your quest to maintain a diet for a healthy life. Hope you will stop by again.

STEERING CLEAR

STEERING CLEAR

It is so common and so universal in our society to maintain an unhealthy diet that it has almost become the norm but it is necessary if you are considering a diet to lose weight to begin with eliminating unhealthy and downright dangerous so-called foods from your diet.

For a good example,  hotdogs are something we all love in one way or another . Put on that mustard or ketchup, sauerkraut, or chili, cheese, onion and you have yourself a real treat. What you don’t know may hurt you, compromise your health and lead to very serious conditions, one of which is Leukemia in children.

As in my previous messages, I have tried to point out the fact that the toxins used to preserve foods and make them so tasty convert an otherwise healthy food.to an unhealthy one in your diet. As you know, an intoxicated person does not act normally. After a period of time, it will wear off but if repeated consistently, the internal damage begins to manifest and progress to some serious problems.  Every time a toxin enters the body, the cells with which it comes in contact makes them act abnormally as well.

When cells begin to act abnormally, we see cancerous cells develop or if they are part of the immune system, they may fail to protect the rest of your body the way it was designed to do. Pathogens will always congregate and propagate in the area of the body where they encounter the least resistance Even of the same, species of pathogens can manifest in many different ways depending upon the part of the body they settle in.

One of the best illustrations of this fact that I can recall was of a Dr who related that as he was treating a small child for a common cold and she sneezed in his eye. In a little while his eye was itching and burning and although the pathogens were the same, the location and manifestation was different.

You may have noticed, as I have that we seem to have many more varieties of diseases to which new names are given, diseases that a few years ago were relatively unheard of. Many more new, strange and improved toxins have been introduced to our environment and foods as well.

In the town I live in, the hospital has been added on to three times and the fourth large expansion is being added now. With all the wide open spaces and few industries to produce air pollution, it pretty well points to something that is common to everyone, namely, daily diets..

Frequently, it is discovered that there is another food additive or yet another prescription drug that is harmful. We can’t say they didn’t warn us with the long list of side effects that they recite on every prescription drug commercial on TV. It seems pretty common for prescription drugs to be pulled from the market but how many times do you hear of a food additive being banned? It is usually just relegated to the long list of allergies to food.

We have all heard of Nitrites used to preserve vegetables at salad bars  but who knew that after all the decades of those delicious peanut butter and jelly sandwiches that peanut butter could possibly be a lethal weapon
I hope this is a helpful reminder as you gather the food for your diet and I will have more to offer tomo

A SECOND CHANCE

A SECOND CHANCE

As you have already seen, your body has a lot more built in wisdom in trying to maintain a balance and keep you alive than you give it credit for. It would be impossible for you to keep track of and mentally control all of the necessary, simultaneous and complex activities that are required to maintain the necessary balance to keep you alive.

Even the best mind could not comprehend and multitask in order to duplicate all of those activities.

If all you had to do was to concentrate on disesting your food, regulate your heart-beat and consciously breathe, the first time you fell asleep, it would all be over. These are only a few of the many things you expect your body to do automatically in spite of the harmful elements you knowingly or unknowingly put into your daily diet.

If you don’t read the fine print on the labels of the boxes you put in your grocery cart, you know, the ones with all kinds of great healthy things, and you miss the words on there that you can hardly pronounce those are usually the ones your body fails to recognize as anything other than garbage that it. Must eliminate or store somewhere. Your body has more important things to do in just extracting what nourishment, it needs the healthy food you may have ingested Have you ever heard the word “dumpy” used to describe how a person looked or felt? I have had that feeling myself when I experienced the effects of rheumatoid arthritis at the ripe young age of forty.

When I got that diagnosis though, was when I decided to take matters into my own hands to see if there was another way to maintain an active and productive life. These bodies become dumps by forcing our bodies to deal with the trans-foods we put in them along with excesses of things that are necessary in limited amounts.

Certain sugars and salts are necessary to your diet but when used in excess, they create havoc in the balance of an otherwise healthy body. An excess of one nutrient can produce a deficiency of another nutrient. This imbalance can turn those dumps into ideal breeding grounds for pathogens and open the door to many health issues.

Sadly, these toxic waste dumps are often in areas of your body where there is very limited blood supply. Many of the otherwise great activities that are beneficial to the weight loss you want cannot efficiently take place as long as you keep adding to the imbalance in your body.

Is there really a way out of the dilemma, perhaps, a second chance? Yes there is and I’m sure that at this point you can see what one of the first steps to your healthy weight loss plan must be. I will continue tomorrow. Thanks for visiting and come back again. Please comment if you like

A BALANCING ACT

A BALANCING ACT

Your body is always seeking a balance and a perfect body would be one that is in perfect balance. You may think of that perfect balance as being a null point with no deficiencies or excesses but that would require an environment and a diet like the one in the proverbial “Garden of Eden”.

We however, live in an actual world where there are water filters that attempt to return water to its unpolluted state. Artificial fertilizers that only attempt to make the land as fertile as it once was. Air filters to purify the air, soaps, disinfectants and detergents to try and keep your immediate environment tidy and germ free but what do you do about your food when it has been sprayed with pesticides that penetrate the skin and are found in the fruit itself?

Cooking does nothing to destroy those chemical substances but in addition to doing nothing to get rid of the chemical problem, the chemical, it does destroy the natural, enzymes that would normally assist in digesting the fruits and vegetables?

Can you imagine what your stomach goes through trying to digest what is considered food, but instead is loaded with pesticides and preservatives that are present to keep it from breaking down but are consumed It’s like mission impossible headed for self-destruct.

What does your stomach do with that mass of denatured food? Ever had indigestion or heartburn? That’s your stomach saying.“Houston, we have a problem.” Your stomach does the best it can but there are limits to what your digestive system can handle. It was built to thrive on a healthy diet of natural, healthy food.

Eventually, what food content the body recognizes, along with that inert food and foreign chemical matter, is going to find its way to your liver where your liver is also given another impossible task of filtering useless and unrecognizable substances out of the blood.

These substances are toxic minerals and chemicals however, and your liver is really made to handle only organic waste can be excreted through the bowels and kidneys. Even in the small quantities in processed foods that are said to be harmless the accumulative affect can be great

These chemicals which are not acceptable or useful to any part of your body, are disregarded and must be stored somewhere. You may or may not consider this accumulation as harmful heavy metals but since they cannot all be expelled, they can have a devastating effect over a consistent period of time.

I have personally known folks who have reached a threshold of intolerance where even one piece of fruit. or a vegetable sprayed with a pesticide, (no matter how well it was washed) would put them in the hospital for 3 days in a compromised condition.

The two most likely places that toxins will be stored are in fat and in the liver itself. There is condition called steotosis where fat invades the liver. This condition leads to inflammation in the liver. Makes you wonder if the fat isn’t accumulating there to furnish a place for the liver to store the toxins?

Your body is very wise indeed and is able to improvise even with an unhealthy diet when that is all it has to work with. I welcome your comments and questions. We are all in this together to create a happy and healthy diet. Thanks for visiting and do come back again. Hope to see you tomorrow.

Ever Been On A Diet?

EVER BEEN ON A DIET?
Unless you have put on more than just a few pounds, you may have answered no to that question but in the strict sense of the word, you have always been on a diet. A diet is what you eat every day. The word has become so associated with weight loss, losing body fat or dieting for health that we automatically think of diet in that sense. It is pretty much on everyone’s mind.
The center for disease control and prevention statistics shows that nearly one third of US adults (33.85%)  are obese) Approximately 17% (or 12.5 million) of children and adolescents aged 2---19 years are obese. Questions about diet and losing weight are among some of the most frequent questions asked online
This leads us to believe that there are many more that may not have reached the stage of obesity but are somewhere on the way.
There are two prominent factors involved in the problem of getting rid of excess weight. The first is in knowing specifically, how and why those extra pounds got there.
The second is in knowing how to remove what your body has already stored without the process compromising your health and taking over your life.
A real magic bullet or pill, as a solution, has not yet been found nor is it likely that it ever will be. Many plans and treatments are aimed at the symptoms rather than the cause and in the process, create an imbalance in the body that can also cause a few pounds to be dropped but never really solve the problem.
If you have ever had food poisoning, you know how fast that can drop your weight but I am sure you will also agree that it is not a good, healthy way to lose weight.
Being overweight is a lot like being lost in that the best way to get back to the starting point would be to retrace your steps over the same path and undo the things that brought you here in the first place. It is possible to make that return trip and undo some of those mistakes. As long as you know what caused the extra pounds. That, along with some changes in eating habits and life-style makes it possible to do just that and perhaps even experience some notable improvements in your health and the way you feel as a bonus..
Without taking care of the two factors mentioned it is likely that all the exercise, calorie counting or starvation diets in the world will do but very little to help solve the problem. Until the first two problems are solved, it’s like trying to make two opposing forces work for you. If you have tried any of those methods, you must know how aggravating and time consuming they can be. Losing weight is a matter of getting everything to work together in the right direction.
Fat is one of the easiest places for the body to store toxins so over the next few days I will be bringing more information on the solution to the subject of healthy weight loss. Thanks you for visiting. I hope you liked the message and will stop by again tomorrow.
